Juvéderm Treatment

What is Juvéderm and how does it work?

Juvéderm™ is a smooth consistency gel that is formed by cross linking hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance that when injected into your skin helps to add volume and hydration. Hyaluronic acid has been proven to absorb up to one thousand times its own water weight. Since it’s able to absorb so well, it enables itself to add totally new volume under the surface of sagging skin! Hyaluronic acid is also known for its ability to bind with collagen—the material that supports human facial skin—and actually stretches the cells in your skin in a unique way which causes your skin to manufacture completely new sources of collagen. This new collagen will effectively smooth away facial creases and wrinkles. As an added benefit, the hyaluronic acid in your skin will slow down or completely stop the breakdown of existing collagen, preventing your wrinkles from returning sooner than expected.

Since Juvéderm™ is a naturally occurring substance in your skin, it will naturally dissolve into your system and eventually completely disappear, causing no long-term or negative side effects.

Juvéderm Preperation:

In preparation to acquiring Juvéderm™ treatment, it will be necessary to avoid any blood-thinning medications such as aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDs) for up to but not limited to one week prior to treatment. Fortunately, there is no allergy test required for this treatment.

Before you receive treatment for Juvéderm™ injections, your physician will determine the extent of your Juvéderm™ needs by examining the soft tissues of your face. This will allow your physician to determine whether you will need Juvéderm™ Ultra or Juvéderm™ Ultra Plus. Both Juvéderm™ Ultra and Juvéderm™ Ultra Plus work to contour and volumize facial wrinkles and folds, but Juvéderm™ Ultra Plus is simply a more robust treatment, designed for more advanced forms of wrinkling or sagging.

Juvéderm Treatment:

The actual Juvéderm™ treatment process is simple, fast, and virtually painless. The entire process usually takes an average of fifteen minutes and consists of your physician gently easing the Juvéderm™ gel into the mid to deep dermis of any target areas and then gently massaging the injection sites for added emphasis.

You will see immediate results upon completion of treatment. These amazing results can easily last up to an entire year, and most patients need only one treatment to receive these results. However, to continue looking the way you do, you will need another treatment once the effects finally wear out.

After treatment, you are free to leave the facilities but are recommended to avoid heavy sun or heat exposure, strenuous activity, or consumption of alcoholic beverages for up to 24 hours. There have been a few cases where temporary side effects of redness, swelling, pain, firmness, and/or bumps have occurred, but these side effects normally vanish up to 7 days after the procedure. Application of an ice pack had been proven effective against any swelling that may occur at the injection sites.
