BOTOX Cosmetic Treatment
What is Botox and how does it work?
BOTOX® Cosmetic is used to eliminate wrinkles
and is a sterile and purified version of the
Botulinum Toxin A. When the toxin is injected
into the muscle, it works to block the nerve
impulses, temporarily paralyzing the muscles
that cause wrinkles, thereby causing them to
relax more.
Within days, you may see a drastic improvement
in the moderate to severe frown lines between
your brows. A smoothing effect is seen almost
immediately and it continues to improve over
the next few days.

The full effects of BOTOX® Cosmetic injections can be
seen in 5-7 days. Results may vary person to person,
depending on the severity of wrinkles and the strength
of muscles treated. The results last from three to four
months after which most patients gradually return to
their former state. Normally, BOTOX® Cosmetic Injections
should be repeated every 3-4 months.
Discomfort is minimal and usually brief. Before injecting
BOTOX® Cosmetic, your physician can choose to numb the
area with an ice pack or anesthetic cream to make the
process a little more mild. The entire procedure takes
about 10 minutes. Most people go through the BOTOX®
Cosmetic treatment with no downtime.
Is BOTOX® Cosmetic right for me?
BOTOX® Cosmetic is the only treatment approved by the FDA for the temporary relief
of moderate to severe frown lines between the brows
in people 18 to 65 years of age. With one simple 10-minute
treatment, results can be seen within a couple of days
and can last for up to 4 months. Individual results
may vary.

Can any of my medicines interact
with BOTOX® Cosmetic?
Be sure that your doctor knows the names of all
the medicines you are using, including:
Antibiotics used to treat infections,
such as gentamicin, tobramycin, clindamycin,
and lincomycin
Medicines used to treat heart rhythm problems,
such as quinidine
Medicines used to treat different conditions,
such as myasthenia gravis or Alzheimer disease.
As with all prescription medicines, you should
also notify your doctor if you are taking any

for the complete information. What Are
the Side Effects of Botox Cosmetic?
Temporary bruising is the most common side
effect
Headaches, which resolve in 24-48 hours, can
occur, but this is rare
A small percentage of patients may develop
eyelid drooping. This usually resolves in three
weeks. This development is usually caused by
migration of the BOTOX® Cosmetic and for this
reason, you shouldn't rub the treated area for
12 hours after injection or lay down for three
to four hours
There have been no allergies associated with
BOTOX® Cosmetic to date |
